Sunflower Thrift

a friendly kind of trendy

"Upcycling, also known as creative reuse , is the process of transforming by-products, waste materials, useless or unwanted products into new materials or products of better quality or for better environmental value."

Hannah created this website to showcase and sell her handmade, upcycled clothing. Hannah's enrolled in a project-based learning program called Propel. It allows students to pursue any project in an area they're interested in. While being a part of Propel, she discovered her love for styling and creating clothing. Hannah's vision for the end of the semester is to raise awareness of the harmful effects that "fast fashion" has on the environment.

WHO AM I ? imageWHO AM I ? image
Hey everybody my name is Hannah and I am the creator of Sunflower Thrift.

Outside of my school endeavours, I have received many awards at dance competitions including Move, Phoenix, and Dance Canada. Having achieved these awards has taught me to value determination in projects I embark upon, such as this one.

Growing up I always had a love for nature and animals. A house I lived in when I was younger was next to a river. I spent my summer days playing with my friend on the river trail, where I would observe nature. A summer evening I will always remember is when my friend and I were sitting in a clearing and trees towered over us. As the sun began to set, we got quieter. A silent moment passed and my friend nudged me, she pointed to a spot in the bushes. A deer started to emerge, we then saw a male buck come up from another bush. My friend and I sat on the grass, completely silent. A few minutes went by and a sudden noise came from a far distance away, the deer were startled and ran off. Those few minutes where I gazed into the eyes of the deer, will always be a reminder to me:

Nature depends on us, as we depend on nature.
